Appam recipe – kerala style appam recipe – set dosa

Famous traditional breakfast dish from South India.

Appam recipe. Appam or set dosa is south India’s traditional breakfast item. It is a very easy-to- make and a healthy recipe. We need to ferment the rice and urd dal batter for making this appam. We can make the batter and store in refrigerator for a week. Using this same batter we can make uthappam,Dosa etc… There are lot many side dishes like Coconut Chutney,Mint Chutney,8 types of chutney recipes collections.

How to make Appam / How to make Set Dosa?


  • 3 cups of Unboiled rice/white rice/ pachari
  • 1/2 cup of Urad Dal
  • 2 tbsp. of cooked rice
  • Salt for taste


Step 01

Rinse and soak rice and urd dal together in water for about 6 hours.

Step 02

Grind well and ferment for 8 hours.

Step 03

Heat non stick pan.

Step 04

Add salt in to the batter and mix well.Pour one laddle of batter in to pan.Just spread batter by pressing with laddle on the not over spread

Step 05

Goes well with chutneys.

Side dish For Appam

Mint leaves chutney,Tomato chutney,Dosa podi(with urd dal),Coconut chutney powder etc…
