Chembu Puzhukku | How to make chembu puzhukku
Spicy and delicious masala made with Yam.
Chembu puzhukku is a very easy to make traditional side dish of Kerala. Yam is one of the healthiest root vegetable which are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber. In Kerala, yam is also known as chembu and we make lots of recipes with this root vegetable like curry, fry, stir fry etc. There are different yam varieties available which improves bone health and heart functioning. I have already posted some healthy and tasty yam recipes like crispy yam chips | chena chips,koottu curry/black gram and yam curry/koottucurry and chena ozhichu koottan/yam curry. How to make Chembu puzhukku
1/2 kg of Yam
1 cup of grated coconut
2 tbsp. of crushed Ginger ,garlic and shallots
1/4 spn. of Turmeric powder
1/2 spn. of Chilli powder
4 no of Red chilli
Salt to taste
2 Springs of Curry leaves
1 tbsp. of Oil
Cut yam in to small pieces and cook with salt,one galss of water and little turmeric powder. Once get cooked keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan.Splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves and red chilli.
Add crushed ginger garlic shallots mix. Fry for 1 min in edium flame.
Add turmeric powder and chilli powder.Stir well.
Add grated coconut and mix well.
Add yam and mix well.Add salt if needed. Mash well with a wooden spatula. Serve hot.
