Thakkali Thokku | Tomato Pickle
Perfect side dish for chapathi,dosa or even curd rice
A simple and easy to make side dish with tomato. Thokku is a kind of pickle famous in south india especially in tamilnadu. There are so many varieties in thokku like onion thokku,mango thokku,onion tomato thokku etc… This tomato thokku is very easy to prepare side dish and is ideal for travel. Thakkali thokku goes well with idIdli,Dosa or even with Curd rice. Hope you all will try this tomato thokku recipe.

1/2 kg of Tomato
2 tbsp of chilly powder
1 spn. of turmeric powder
1/8 spn. of Fenugreek powder
3 tbsp. of sesame oil
1 spn. of mustard
1/2 spn. of asafoetida
Salt as required
Thakkali Thokku Preparation Method
Wash and chop tomatoes.
Heat gingely oil in a kadai. Splutter mustard seeds.
Add chopped tomatoes and salt. Cook in medium flame till it became mushy.
Add chilli powder and turmeric powder. Saute till raw smell goes off.
Add 1 tbsp. of oil again and saute till tomato mix become thick.(It will take around 15- 20 minutes).
When the oil starts to come out from tomato, add asofoetida and fenugreek powder. Mix well and saute for another 2 minutes.
Remove from fire and allow it to cool. Store in glass bottles.
1.You can use any oil of your choice.But sesame oil is good for making pickles
2.You can avoid feugreek powder if you don’t like the taste.
