Traditional breakfast side dish of Kerala
Puttu and kadala curry is the very popular traditional dish of kerala. We can make kadala curry in many ways like without using coconut,by grinding coconut,by using roasted coconut etc… I have already posted some healthy recipes with kadala like Nadan varutharacha kadala curry (blackgram with roasted coconut),Koottu curry with kadala and chena,Kadala curry with coconut,Vegetarian shammi kabab (black chana cutlet). Hope you all will like this recipes.
How to make Kadala Curry without Coconut
- 2 cups of Gram(Kadala soaked in water for 6-8 hours)
- 1 large Onion
- 3 medium sized Tomatoes
- 1 tbsp. of Ginger Garlic Paste
- 2-3 Green Chillies
- 1/4 tsp. of Turmeric powder
- 3/4 tsp. of Chilli powder
- 1/2 tsp. of Coriander powder
- 1/4 tsp. of Garam Masala
- 1 tsp. of Mustard Seeds
- 2 springs of Curry Leaves
- Oil for Seasoning
- Salt as per taste
Step 01Pressure cook gram/kadala with salt for 10 min. Keep aside.
Step 02Heat oil in a pan,splutter mustard seeds.
Step 03Add chopped onion,saute well.
Step 04When onion get fried,add ginger garlic paste and saute till the raw smell goes off.
Step 05Add chopped tomato. Once the tomato become mushy,add chilli powder,turmeric powder and coriander powder. Stir well for 1 minute.
Step 06Add cooked gram along with the stock and mix well. Add water if needed. Sprinkle garam masala, close lid and cook for 5 min.
