Parippu vada recipe / Lentil Fritters

Delicious traditional snack recipe of Kerala

Parippuvada is a traditional snack item of Kerala. This snack item is also famous in other part of South India like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. There people have this vada with lunch. In Kerala we have parippuvada with tea. This is a common snack item of all tea shops. Chana dal is used for making parippuvada. I have already posted some snacks recipes like cabbage pakkavada,chicken pakkavada,curd vada,mint vada etc… Hope you all will like this recipes.

How to make Parippuvada


  • 2 cups of Chana Dal
  • 2-3 Green Chilies
  • 2-3 Small Onion(Shallots) finely chopped
  • Some Coriander Leaves
  • Salt as required
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • A small piece of Ginger
  • Oil for Deep frying


Step 01

Soak chana dal in water for 5 hours. Drain it.

Step 02

Crush dal without water using small mixer grinder. Don’t grind too much.

Step 03

Add finely chopped small onion,green chillies, ginger,curry leaves, coriander leaves and salt. Mix well.

Step 04

Heat oil in pan.

Step 05

Take a small lemon sized portion of dal in your palm and flatten to round shape.

Step 06

When oil gets heated add vada mix into the oil slowly. Reduce the flame to medium and fry both side till it becomes golden brown.
