Shahi Tukda | Double ka meetha
Yummy mouth watering Hyderabad dessert
Double Ka Meetha, or Shahi Tukdais a Hyderabad dessert of fried bread slices soaked in hot milk with spices and garnished with Khowa (dried semi solid milk). Shahi Tukda has its roots in Pakistani cuisine and is a very famous dessert in the Mughlai cuisine. It is particularly prepared during the festive month of Ramadan and on Eid. The recipe uses bread, condensed milk, and dry fruits. I got this recipe from a TV show. Prepared and came out well. You can serve this as a dessert to wind up a party. Hope you all will try this North Indian sweet.
4 slice of Bread
1/2 ltr of Milk
1 tbsp. of Cornflour
1/4 cup of Sugar
1 tbsp. of ghee
1/6 spn. of Saffron
Chopped dried fruits to garnish
Shahi Thukda Preparation Method
Boil milk and add saffron soaked in 3 tbsp of warm milk and the corn flour mixed in 2-3 tbsp of milk to it and simmer the milk until its reduces to a thick but poring consistency. (This is called Khowa).
Remove the brown sides of the bread and cut diagonally.
Fry the bread pieces till golden brown and crisp evenly.
Prepare a thick sugar syrup by boiling the sugar with little water just to immerse the sugar(for 1 TS of sugar i used 1/2 TS of sugar).
Soak the bread pieces as you fry them, just for a minute or until you take the next batch.Arrange the soaked pieces in a plate.
Pour the Khowa over the arranged bread.Give some time for the bread to absorb the Khowa.
Garnish with saffron and dried fruits)
Serve hot or chilled as you wish (I like it chilled 🙂 .Enjoy…).
