Home Remedies for Acidity – Acidity or acid reflux is a commonly seen stomach abnormality that occurs in the lower chest area. The imbalance of digestive acids produced by the stomach causes stomach ache, gas, nausea, bad breath, and other symptoms.

It is a common problem in people of all ages. Eating spicy foods, lack of exercise, irregular eating habits, stress, drinking alcohol frequently lead to acidity problems. Burning sensation and feeling heaviness in the stomach always cause great discomfort. Instead of using antacids, there are some natural home remedies to avoid this problem. Hope these remedies will be useful for you.

Natural home remedies for Acidity

Mint leaves/pudina
Mint leaves are famous for its cooling properties which help reduce the pain and burning associated with acid reflux. Pudina helps lower the acid content of the stomach and improves digestion.
2.Coconut water
Coconut water has the capacity to change the body’s pH acidic level into alkaline. It also helps to produce mucus in the stomach, which protects the stomach from the harmful effects of excessive acid production. Since it is rich in fiber, it aids digestion and prevents the re-occurrence of acidity.
3.Ginger
Ginger has excellent digestive and anti-inflammatory properties. To help in neutralizing stomach acids, chew a slice of fresh ginger or have a spoonful of ginger juice two-three times a day or steep fresh ginger in a cup of boiling water and drink it.
4.Basil leaves
The soothing and carminative properties of basil leaves promise instant relief from acidity. At the first sign of gas, eat a few basil leaves or boil 3-4 basil leaves in a cup of water and let it simmer for a few minutes. Sip on it frequently.
5.Cloves
Cloves help to alleviate acidity and dispel gas due to the carminative effect which increases hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Chew 2-3 cloves thoroughly so that the juices are released into the stomach.

Eating crushed cloves and cardamom mixed in equal amounts helps to minimize acid trouble and freshen bad breath that often accompanies with acidity problems.
6.Cinnamon
Cinnamon is good for digestive health. It works as a natural antacid and helps in dispel of stomach gas. Add half a teaspoon of cinnamon powder to a cup of water. Bring to boil and then allow it to settle for few minutes. Drink this cinnamon tea two-three times a day.
7.Jaggery
Jaggery aids digestion and makes the digestive system more alkaline in nature, thus reducing stomach acidity. Since jaggery also helps to maintain normal body temperature, cooling the stomach by drinking Gur sharbat (jaggery soaked in ice-cold water) during the summer.
8.Buttermilk
Buttermilk contains lactic acid that normalizes the acidity in the stomach. Sprinkle a dash of black pepper or one teaspoon of ground coriander leaves for best results. Grind half to one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds with a little water to make a paste.

Mix it in a glass of plain buttermilk and drink it to relieve stomach ache caused by acidity.
9.Cumin seeds
Cumin seeds work as a great acid neutralizer, aid digestion, and relieve stomach pain. Slightly crush some roasted cumin seeds, add to a glass of water stir well and drink or take one teaspoon of cumin seeds in a cup of boiled water and drink it after every meal.

Another option is to mix one teaspoon each of coriander powder, cumin seed powder, fennel seed powder, and little sugar in 1 1/2 cup of water. Drink it on an empty stomach.
10.Bananas
Banana contains natural antacids which act against acid reflux. This is the simplest home remedy for getting rid of acidity. Eat one banana every day to prevent acidic discomfort.
11.Apple cider vinegar
Even though apple cider vinegar is acidic in nature, it has an alkalizing effect that helps to treat stomach acidity. Mix one or two teaspoons of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a cup of water. Drink it once or twice a day or before meals.
12.Raw almonds
Almonds are alkaline-producing food. Almonds help to balance pH levels. Almonds are a good source of calcium too.

Research also shows that dietary factors also plays important role in acid reflections. A simple and healthy lifestyle helps to reduce heat burn and digestion-related issues.
