Arikadukka (Kadukka Nirachathu) | Stuffed Mussels
Kallummakkaaya Nirachathu (Arikadukka) is a popular traditional dish of malabar region
Arikadukka is a very own exotic Malabar sea food. As the name suggests “Arikkadukka” in Malayalam means mussels stuffed in rice. Hope you will enjoy this evening snack. 🙂
Ingredients
10 no of Mussels (Kadukka)
2 up of Rice flour
1 1/2 cup of Water
1/4 cup of Grated coconut
2 no of Shallots
1/2 spn. of Fennel Seeds (Perumjeerakam)
1 tbsp. of Chopped Curry leaves
1/4 spn. of Turmeric powder
1/2 spn. of Chilli powder
1 spoon of Rice flour
salt as required
Method
Step 01
Boil the mussels with enough water,till the shells open.
Step 02
Drain it and clean the mussels and keep it aside. Use mussels the same day they are bought.
Step 03
Grind the coconut, fennel seeds, shallots to a coarse paste without adding water.
Step 04
Boil water with required salt. When it starts to boil, add the rice flour,coconut mixture and stir with a long handle of a ladle.
Step 05
Take a lemon sized dough from prepared dough and stuff the mussels
Step 06
Steam cook the stuffed mussels for 15-20 minutes and keep aside to cool.
Step 07
Scoop out the mussels out of their shells.
Step 08
Make a thick batter using rice powder,red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt.
Step 09
Heat oil in pan, dip each stuffed mussel in this spicy batter and deep fry till golden brown color.
Step 10
Serve this snack as a starter with black tea
Note :If you are taking roasted rice flour,take 2 cup of water for 1 cup of rice flour for making the dough.
