Arrowroot milk or koova kachiyathu is a traditional drink of Kera la. It is a very good energy drink for kids and it contains lots of vitamins and minerals. Arrowroot has lots of medicinal benefits. It is good for digestive problems and urinary infection. Arrowroot also increases immunity power in kids. There are mainly two varieties of arrowroot wild arrowroot and normal arrowroot. Wild arrowroot has more medicinal power than normal arrowroot. My mother in law make arrowroot powder every year with wild arrowroot and make delicious drinks for us when we come for holidays.

We make koova kachiyathu daily during the month of Ramadan as it acts as a coolant for the body. I have used sugar for making this recipe but you can also use jaggery. There is a traditional ‘koova kachiyathu’ recipe with arrowroot powder, jaggery, and tender coconut which we make for ‘thiruvathira’. Ingredients
- Arrowroot powder(Koova podi) - 3 tbsp
- Milk - 1/2 liter
- water - 1/2 liter
- Sugar - 3 tbsp
- Kas kas/sabja seeds - 1 spoon
Method
Step 1
Boil water and milk in a thick bottom vessel
Step 2
Meantime mix arrowroot powder in half glass of water
Step 3
Pour the arrowroot mix into boiling milk. Stir well.
Step 4
Add sugar and stir continuously till the mix get thick.
Step 5
Allow to cool, refrigerate for 2 hours.
Step 6
Add soaked sabja seeds while serving.
