Traditional side dish of Kerala
Avial(aviyal) is a tasty traditional side dish of Kerala made with vegetables,curd and coconut. It is a main part of Onam Sadya. The perfect combination of avail is with rice. I have already tried other kerala recipes like Mathanga Elissery,Varutharacha Sambar,Carrot pachadi,rasam etc… Hope you all wil like this recipes
Ingredients
- Slice all the vegetables in to 1 1/2 inch piece.
- 1 cup of Yam
- 1 cup of Potato
- 1 cup of Snake guard
- 1 cup of Beans
- 1 cup of Carrot
- 1 cup of Drum stick
- 2 cup of Grated coconut
- 5 no of Green chilli
- 1/2 spn. of Cumin seeds
- 1 cup of Curd
- 1/2 spn. of Turmeric powder
- 1 pinch of Chilli powder
- 2 springs of Curry leaves
- Salt to taste
- 1 tbsp. of Oil
Method
Step 01
Grind grated coconut,cumin seeds and green chilli and keep aside.Don’t over grind the coconut.
Step 02
Boil vegetables except drum stick with little amount of water(say 1 cup).
Step 03
If vegetables get half boiled, add drum stick,turmeric powder,chilli powder and salt.
Step 04
If there is water after vegetables get cooked,open the lid and put the flame in high.
Step 05
Add coconut paste and mix well.Keep 1 minutes in low flame
Step 06
Add curd and mix well.
Step 07
Remove from flame.Add coconut oil and curry leaves.close the lid.open and serve after 5 minutes
