Kerala Style Ayala Pollichathu Recipe


Traditional ayala pollichathu recipe in malabar style


Delicious spicy and tangy fish pollichathu recipe with ayala. Usually we prepare pollichathu recipe with Karimeen. I have already posted Karimeen Pollichathu recipe . After that tried pollciathu with mathi(sardine) also. You can check Mathi Pollichathu recipe here. We can prepare pollichathu with almost all fishes. This ayala pollichathu is a quick and easy one. usually we prepare pollichahtu in banana leaf. But here I didn’t use banana leaf. Just cooked in pan. Hope you will like this easy method.

Ingredients

For Fry Ayala

2 no of Ayala/ Mackerel
1 spn. of ginger garlic paste
1 spn. of chilli powder
1/2 spn. of turmeric powder
2 spn. of lemon juice
3 springs of curry leaves
Salt as required
2 tbsp. of oil

For Masala

2 no of onion (finely sliced) or 20 no of finely chopped shallots
2 spn. of ginger garlic paste
3 no of finely sliced tomato
4 springs of curry leaves
1 spn. of chilli powder
1/2 spn. of turmeric powder
2 pinch of fenugreek powder
1/6 spn. of pepper powder
1 lemon sized tamarind
2 tbsp. of oil
salt as required

Ayala Pollichathu Preparation Method


Step 01


Grind chilli powder,turmeric powder,curry leaves,ginger garlic paste,lemon juice and salt to smooth fine paste.

Step 02


Marinate fish with this paste and keep aside for 15 minute.

Step 03


Heat oil in a pan.

Step 04


Shallow fry fish up to 10-15 minutes.Keep aside
Masala

Step 01


Heat oil in a pan

Step 02


Add fenugreek and saute for a while.

Step 03


Add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell goes off.

Step 04


Add finely chopped onion (or shallots),green chillies and curry leaves.Fry well.

Step 05


When onion get fried,add sliced tomatoes.Fry till tomatoes became mushy.

Step 06


Make tamarind juice.

Step 07


Add chilli powder,turmeric powder,fenugreek powder,salt and pepper powder.Saute for 1 minute in low flame.Add tamarind juice last and mix well.Remove from flame.

Take half masala from the pan and place fried ayala on the top of masala.

Cover fish with remaining masala and cover all the side of fish.

Step 10


Cover the pan cook for 4-6 minutes.

Step 11


Serve hot with rice.

Easy Ayala Pollichathu with step by step photos.

9.Check salt and cook till curry starts to thicken.

10.Meantime Shallow fry ayala.

11.Turn other side and fry.

15.Turn off the flame and serve hot.
