Upma is the traditional breakfast of south India. Broken wheat upma is a very simple and healthy breakfast to start you day. Broken wheat is very nutritious and is good for diabetic and heart patients. It contains a very good amount of fiber and magnesium. Broken wheat is low in calorie but very high in protein.

How to make healthy broken wheat upma


    • 2 cup of Broken Wheat
    • 1 no of large Onion
    • 5 no of Green chilli
    • 1 cup of Mixed vegetables(carrot, beans, potato, peas etc…)
    • 1 tbsp. of Chopped ginger
    • 1 1/2 cup of water

To season

  • 1tbsp. of Oil
  • 1 spn. of Mustard seeds
  • 1/2 spn. of Chana dal
  • 1 tbsp. of Coriander leaves
  • 2 springs of Curry leaves


Step 01

Wash broken wheat and soak in water for 5 minutes.

Step 02

Mean time heat oil in a pan.

Step 03

Splutter mustard seeds. Then add chana dal, urd dal coriander leaves and curry leaves

Step 04

Add chopped onion, ginger and green chilli. Fry well till golden brown color.

Step 05

Add chopped vegetables and salt. Fry for 5 min in medium flame.

Step 06

Add water (for 1 cup of broken wheat, I took 2 cup of water). Close lid of the pan and cook in low flame.

Step 07

When water starts to boil, Add broken wheat and stir well. Cover the pan and cook for 1-2 minute in low flame.

Step 08

Open the pan and stir well. Garnish with fruits. Broken wheat upma goes well with banana.
