Cheera Parippu Thoran | Spinach Lentil Stir Fry
Tasty and nutritious side dish with spinach and lentil
Stir fry is a common item on the South Indian lunch menu. They are very healthy and easy to make. We used to make stir-fries mainly with vegetables and leaves. Here I would like to share a traditional stir fry recipe spinach and lentil fry(Cheera parippu thoran). As you all know lentil is a very good source of protein and is good for growing kids. Spinach is also rich in iron and many other important nutrients. Also, the crunchiness of grated coconut makes this stir fry taste heavenly. Rice, rasam and this cheera parippu thoran a perfect comfort meal for me and family. I have already posted 20 easy stir fry recipes (20 Thoran Recipes). Hope you all will like these recipes.
How to make spinach dal stir fry
Ingredients
- 3 cup of chopped spinach
- 1/4 cup of Bengal Gram (Kadala parippu. use can also use sambar parippu)
- 1 cup of grated coconut
- 1/4 cup of chopped onion
- 1/4 spn. of turmeric powder
- 3-4 no of green chillies
- 1/4 tsp. of mustard seeds
- 1/4 tsp. of cumin seeds
- 2 no of red chillies
- 1 tsp of vegetable oil
- salt as required
Method
Step 01
Pressure cook chana dal along with turmeric powder and salt for 5 minutes (3-4 whistle in medium flame. Do not overcook)
Step 02
Crush grated coconut along with green chilies. Keep aside.
Step 03
Heat the oil in a pan and add mustard seeds and red chilies, when it splutters add chopped onion. Saute for a while.
Step 04
Add chopped spinach and a pinch of salt. Fry for 1-2 minutes.
Step 05
Add lentil and mix well. Cook again for 2 minutes. Stir often.
Step 06
Finally, add crushed coconut. Check salt and remove it from flame. Serve hot with rice.
