Traditional kerala side dish with yam and curd
Chena moru curry/Yam curd curry is a very easy to make traditional side dish. Chena is also known as elephant foot which is the most healthiest root vegetable. I have already posted some healthy and tasty yam recipes like crispy yam chips | chena chips,koottu curry/black gram and yam curry/koottucurry and chena ozhichu koottan/yam curry. This yam and curd curry is a very easy to make healthy side dish. As we all know moru curry is an integral part of south indian cuisine especially Kerala. We used to make moru curry in many forms like kachimoru, kurukku kalan, moru curry etc… You can also use ash gourd, yam,plantain etc… for making this moru kalan. Hope you all will like this recipes.
How to make Chena moru curry | Yam curd curry
1/2 kg of yam (chena)
1/4 ltr of Curd
1 cup of Grated coconut
1/2 spn. of Cumin seeds
1/4 spn. of Turmeric powder
1/4 spn. of Chilli powder
1/4 spn. of pepper
3 cloves of garlic
3 no of green chillies
1 spn. of Oil
1/2 spn. of Mustard seeds
4 no of Red chilli
2 springs of curry leaves
Salt as required
Wash and cut the yam/chena in to small pieces.
Pressure cook yam with turmeric powder,salt and 1/2 cup of water for 10 min under low flame.
Grind coconut,cumin seeds,green chilli and garlic well.
Add ground coconut to cooked yam and mix well. Add curd and cook for 1 min. Remove from heat when it start boiling.
Heat oil in a pan. Splutter mustard seeds,red chilli and curry leaves
Add this seasoning to the curry. Mix well and cover lid of pan. Serve after 5 min
