Cherupayar curry | Puttu and cherupayar
Traditional breakfast menu of kerala
Cherupayar curry and puttu is a perfect healthy traditional breakfast item of kerala. It is a very simple and easy to make breakfast menu. To make puttu, we need roasted rice flour,salt and grated coconut. We can also use grated carrot, beetroot, spinach stir fry instead of grated coconut to make puttu more healthy. I have already tried 3 different varieties of puttu recipes like Puttu upma (with leftover puttu) and wheat puttu,Puttu and kadala curry. The famous side dish for puttu is with Kadala curry. You can also check for 3 different varieties of kadala curry recipes like Varutharacha kadala curry (black chana with roasted coconut),kadala curry without coconut,kadala curry with coconut. How to make Puttu?
Ingredients
2 cup of Rice flour
1/4 cup of Grated coconut
Salt as required
1/2 cup of Water
Method
Step 01
Add salt in to rice flour and mix well.
Step 02
Add water little by little to the flour and mix it.
Step 03
Be careful while mixing water because it should not change into dough. It should be a wet powdered form.
Step 04
Add 1 S grated coconut in to puttu maker,then add a handful of flour mix again add grated coconut then rice flour.
Step 05
Close the lid and steam for 5 minutes in medium flame.
How to make Cherupayar curry | green gram curry for puttu?
Ingredients
250 g of green gram(cherupayar)
10 no of shallots
5-6 no cloves of garlic
1/4 spn. of turmeric powder
1/2 spn. of chilli powder
1/2 spn. of mustard seeds
2 springs of curry leaves
2-3 no of dried chillies
2 spn. of oil
salt to taste
Method
Step 01
Pressure cook green gram wit 2 cup of water and salt in medium flame till 4-5 whistle(No need to soak green gram).
Step 02
Crush shallots and garlic cloves.
Step 03
Heat oil in a pan.
Step 04
Splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves and dried chillies.
Step 05
Add crushed onion mix and fry for 1-2 minutes. Add chilli powder and turmeric powder. Saute for another 1 minute.
Step 05
Add cooked green gram and mix well. Adjust salt and cook for another 2-3 minutes in medium flame. This green gram curry goes well with puttu,chapathi and rice,
