Punjabi Dal Makhani Recipe with red kidney beans and whole black lentils


Dal Makhani is one of the most popular Punjabi recipe. As it name implies it is a rich creamy side dish made with dal (lentil) ,makhan (butter) and cream. If you are more health conscious, you can avoid butter and cream. We can prepare dal makhani in many ways. This is the most easiest way. No sauteing required for this recipe. Just add all the ingredients in pressure cooker and cook for 8-9 whistle. Hope you all will like this dal makhani recipe. Please try it out and let me know how it turned out for you.

Ingredients


200 g of kidney beans/rajma
150 g of whole black gram/whole urad dal
2 spn. of butter/olive oil
1 no of onion
2 no of tomato
4-5 cloves of garlic
1/4 spn. of cumin powder
1/2 spn. of chilli powder
1/6 spn. of turmeric powder
14/ spn. of panjabi garam masala(dry roast coriander seeds,cumin seeds,nutmeg,cardamom,cloves,dry ginger,bay leaves and pepper and powder it)
salt as required
1/4 cup of Full fat cream(optional)

Dal Makhani Preparation Steps


Step 01

Soak beans and black urad dal in water for overnight

Step 02

pressure cook the beans along with all the ingredients including salt

Step 03

Cook for 8-10 whistle in medium flame

Step 04

Once it is done,gently mash the mix with a ladle

Step 05

Again pressure cook for 2-3 whistle in medium flame till you get a smoothy consistency

Step 06

If you wish, you can add cream and cook for 5 more minutes. I didn’t add cream in this recipe.
