Healthy and delicious dumplings with plantain
Kozhukkatta is the famous traditional snack of South India. In Kerala we used to prepare kozhukkatta with rice flour,grated coconut and jaggery. We can also add beaten rice along with grated coconut and jaggery while filling. Here I made kozhukkatta with plantain|Kerala banana|Ethapazham. Plantain is very healthy and good for kids. Health benefits of Plantain | Ethapazham
Plantain has more calories than in the fruit. 100 g plantain consists of 122 calories, while dessert banana has 89 calories. It contains 2.3 g of dietary fiber per 100 g (6% of DRA per 100 g). Adequate amount of Dietary-fiber in the food helps normal bowel movements, thereby reducing constipation problems. Fresh plantain have more vitamin C and vitamin A than bananas.They also provide adequate levels of minerals such as iron, magnesium, and phosphorous. Magnesium is essential for bone strengthening and has a cardiac-protective role as well.
Ingredients
- 1 medium sized riped plantain
- 1 cup of grated coconut
- 1/4 sp of Cardamom powder
- 10 no of raisins
- 1/4 sp of cumin seeds
- 4 tbsp of sugar
- 2 cup of rice flour
- 1 1/2 cup of water
- 1 sp of oil
- salt as required
Method
Step 01
Heat ghee in a pan. Add chopped plantain and fry for 2-3 minutes.
Step 02
Add sugar and allow the sugar to caramelize. Saute for 1-2 minutes. Switch off the flame and keep aside.
Step 03
Boil water with required amount of salt. When it comes to boil add rice flour little by little and mix well. Turn off the burner.
Step 04
Allow to cool. Knead into a smooth dough and make small balls.
Step 05
Take one ball each and flatten into circle on your palm. Place the banana filling in the center.
Step 06
Carefully seal the edges and make a smooth ball.
Step 07
Steam the dumplings in a steamer for around ten minutes.
Step 08
Allow to cool and serve with tea.
