Instant Oats Idli Recipe

Healthy breakfast with oats

Instant oats idli is a highly nutritious and diabetic friendly breakfast recipe made with oats and broken wheat. No fermentation is needed for this idli. You can add any vegetables of your choice like carrot, beans and spinach to the batter. Oats Idli is also rich fiber and good for weight watchers.

I have already tried some diabetic friendly oats recipes like Oats Kheer, Oats Upma, Oats kozhukkattai, Oats uthappam, Ragi oats porridge, and oats dal fritters. Hope you all will like this recipes.

Here I have used curd for making this Idli which gives tanginess to the Idli. Eno fruit salt is required for making this Idli or you need to ferment the batter for 5-6 hours. Hope you you all will like this instant oats Idli. Please try it out and let me know how it turned out for you.

For batter
1 cup of Oats
1/2 cup of Broken Wheat
1/2 cup of Curd
1 cup of Chopped Vegetables
Salt as needed
1/2 spn. of Eno Fruit Salt
1 spn. of lemon juice

To Temper
1 spn. of Oil
1/2 spn. of mustard seeds
1 spn. of Urd dal
1 small piece of Ginger
2 no of Green chillies
1 tbsp. of Coriander leaves
1 spring of Curry leaves


Step 01

Dry roast oats.Allow to cool and powder it coarsely.

Step 02

Heat oil in a pan.

Step 03

Splutter mustard seeds.Add all the ingredients given under “To temper” section .

Step 04

Add all the finely chopped vegetables(carrots,beans,cauliflower etc…) and fry for 1-2 minutes.

Step 05

Add broken wheat and fry for 2-3 minutes. Remove from fire.

Step 06

Take a mixing bowl and add the mixture. Add oats powder and mix well.

Step 07

Add curd,lemon juice and salt.Mix well.Pour water in to mix and make a idli batter consistency mix.Keep aside for 5 minutes.

Step 08

Finely add ENO fruit salt just before making idli.

Step 09

Grease Idli plate with oil and pour the mix.Steam cook for 10 minutes.
