Upma Kozhukattai is the traditional healthy snack/breakfast recipe of South India. Traditional kara pidi is a common breakfast item of Tamil cuisine which is made with rice, dal, grated coconut etc. In Kerala we used to make kozhukkatta which is made with rice flour with jaggery and grated coconut as filling. I came to know about savory version of kozhukkatta after my marriage and found found interesting
In this recipe I have tried a different version of upma kozhukkattai. Steamed rice dumplings with spicy grated coconut mixture. This dish can be served as a healthy snack or as a breakfast . Add chopped shallots, green chillies and curry leaves.Saute for a while.
Add grated coconut.Fry for 1 minute
Add chilli powder and turmeric powder.fry well.
Add rice dumplings and salt .Mix well
Cover the lid and cook for 1-2 min in low flame. Do not add water.
