Kudampuliyitta Mathi Curry
Kudampuliyitta Mathi Curry/ sardine with gambogee is a famous traditional kerala style fish curry. In malabar side we used to make fish curries with tamarind. But kudampuli is more healthier than tamarind. I have already posted one article regarding Health Benefits of Kudampuli.
Normally we make fish curry by frying onion and tomatoes along with ginger garlic paste. This fish curry I made with a difference. Just coarsely grind all the ingredients and made this curry. It tastes too good. Hope you all will like this recipe.This a spicy fish curry and goes well with Kappa or Appam.
Health Benefits of Mathi(Sardine)
Sardine is a type of fish that can work wonders to enhance your health. We all know, fish is a healthy food, but eating sardines definitely has its own added benefits. Sardines are rich in Omega 3 fatty acids which helps in reducing LDL Cholesterol levels which in turn helps in reducing Heart problems. Omega 3 fatty acids also helps in making you hair healthy and shiny, its also makes your skin glow. Mathi (Sardine) has small bones which can be consumed easily which are rich sources of calcium for our bones.
How to make kudampuliyitta mathi curry?
Ingredients
1/2 kg of Mathi(Sardine)
1 cup of Shallots(Cheriya Ulli)
1 no of tamarind
4 nos. of Green Chili
10 cloves of garlic
1 small piece of ginger
2 pieces of Pot Tamarind(Kudam Puli)
3 sprigs of Curry leaves
1 spn.of Kashmiri chilli powder
1/2 spn. of Turmeric powder
1 tbsp. of Oil
10 no of Fenugreek(Methi\Uluva) seeds
2 cup of water
Salt as required
Mathi vattichathu preparation steps
Step 01
Take shallots,ginger,garlic,tomatoes,green chilli in a grinder and coarsely grind it.Keep aside.Step 01
Soak kudampuli/gambooge in water for 15 minutes.Step 02
Heat oil in a Clay pot(Mannu chatti) if you have one or else any pot will do. Add Fenugreek seeds once the oil is hot.Step 03
Add ground mix, curry leaves and saute them well for 4-5 minutes in low flame.Step 06
Once the mixture is fried and starts oil leave out from the mixture, add chilli powder,turmeric powder. Saute for 1 minute in low flame.Step 07
Add two cup of water and salt. Cook well in medium flame for 6-7 minutes. Cover the pot.Step 07
When the gravy is reduced to its half, add the fish. Cook it for another 5 more minutes.Do not cover pan.Step 08
Once the gravy thickens remove it from flame.Your tasty Kudampuliyitta Mathi Curry is now ready serve it hot and enjoy. Let me know your comments and suggestions also how it went for you.
Notes
You can also use normal tamarind for making this curry but nothing beats Kudampuli.
