Tangy Kerala fish curry with roasted coconut and pot tamarind (kudampuli)
Malabar Fish Curry with Roasted coconut or Varutharacha meen curry is a traditional side dish of Kerala.

I made this fish curry with tuna which is very healthy and tasty. You can also use any fish of your choice such as kingfish mackerel, sardine, pomfret etc… Hope you all will like this recipe. Please try out this tasty fish curry and let me know how it turned out for you.

How to make Malabar Fish Curry with Roasted coconut
1/2 kg of Tuna(choora) or any fish of your choice
1/2 of one Coconut
5 no of Shallots
2 no of Tomato
4 no of Green chilli
1/4 spoon of Turmeric powder
1 spoon of Chilli powder
3/4 spoon of Coriander powder
1 pinch of Fenugreek seeds.
5 cloves of Garlic
1 small piece of Ginger
1/2 spoon of Fennel seeds.
3 no of pot tamarind | kudam puli (soak in water for 15 minutes)
Salt as required
1 spoon of Oil
4 no of Shallots
1 spring of curry leaves
Heat 1 S oil in a pan
Add grated coconut,garlic,ginger,curry leaves,fennel seeds and fenugreek seeds. Fry well in medium flame.
Add all spices(chilli powder,coriander powder,turmeric powder) when it turns golden brown.
Stir well for 1 minute in low flame.
Remove from flame,let it cool completely. Add 2-3 TS of water to the roasted ingredients and grind it to a fine thick paste.
Heat oil in a pan and add sliced shallots,green chillies and curry leaves. Saute till the onion get fried.
Add sliced tomatoes and fry in high flame till it become mushy.
Add the grounded coconut mix.
Add 1/2 glass of water and salt. Mix well and let it boil. After 5 minutes add soaked pot tamarind.
When the curry starts to thicken, add fish pieces. Mix carefully.
Cover the pot and cook(medium flame). continue cooking till the fish is done.
Heat 1/2 oil in a pan
Add chopped shallots,fenugreek seeds(3-4) and curry leaves. Saute for till golden brown color.
Add to fish curry and mix well. Soon cover the pot. Serve after 5 minute.
1. If you don’t have fenugreek powder,add 2-3 fenugreek seeds while roasting the coconut.
