Moru Kalan| Kurukku Kalan
Tangy curd curry with Banana/Yam.
Moru kalan or kurukku kalaln is the authentic kerala festival recipe. This thick curd curry is an inevitable part of Onam feast. We used to make moru curry in many forms like kachimoru,kurukku kalan,moru curry etc… Kurukku kalan is a thick gravy type curry. In this recipe,I used plantain for making this kurkku kalan. Ingredients
1/2 kg of Banana/Yam
1/4 kg of Curd
2 cup of Grated coconut
3 no of Green chilli
1/2 spn. of Turmeric Powder
1 pinch of Chilli Powder
1/2 spn. of cumin seeds.
1 spn. of Oil
1/2 spn. of Mustard seeds
1/4 spn. of Fenugreek seeds
2 springs of Curry leaves
Method
Step 01
Cut banana/yam in to big pieces.Half boil this with very little amount of water. Add turmeric powder,chilli powder and salt.
Step 02
Grind coconut well with green chilli and cumin seeds. Add little water while grinding. Grind to smooth paste.
Step 03
Add curd to the banana,notice there should not have water in the pot. Cook well till the curry thickens. Stir continuously.
Step 04
Add grounded coconut and mix well. Do not boil the curry. Switch off the flame.

Heat oil in a pan . Splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves,red chillies and fenugreek. Fry for a while.
Step 06
Add this seasoning to kalan and mix well. Cover the pan and serve after 5 minutes.
