Very famous south indian recipe.I prepared murkku with slight modification.To make murukku some more healthy,I added green gram.Instead of giving bakery items for your kids try something healthy.I got this recipe from my dad who is a great supporter of me.So lets go to the recipe.Be sure about the measurements you have taken.


    1 cup of urd dal
    1/2 cup of green gram
    2 cup of roasted rice flour
    2 spn. of crushed cumin
    Salt as required
    Oil for fry


Step 01

Soak urd dal and green gram for 3 hour.

Step 02

Coarsely grind cumin and asafoetida(if you want spicy murukku,add 1 green chilli,1 small piece of ginger along with cumin and asafoetida).Keep aside.

Step 03

Grind urad dal and green gram into a very smooth paste without adding much water.

Step 04

Take rice flour in a bowl.Add crushed cumin,salt and mix ground dal.

Step 05

Mix well with your hands and form a stiff dough.Add water if you want.

Step 06

keep aside for 15 minutes.

Step 07

Take a plastic sheet or banana leaf.Spread oil or butter on it.Keep aside

Step 08

Take 1 star plate of murukku maker(you can use idiyappam maker).

Step 09

Fill the dough in maker.Close with other mould which is used to press the dough through the hole.

Step 10

Press the dough on the plastic sheet.Slightly rotate the maker round and round until you make a circle.

Step 11

You can make as many spirals as you like.

Step 12

Heat oil in a kadai.

Step 13

Take murukku from plastic sheet carefully and put in oil

Step 14

Fry both the sides till golden color.

Step 15

Allow to cool and store in airtight container
