Onion tomato chutney is a popular south Indian side dish.
Onion tomato chutney is very easy to make side dish which which can be prepared within five minutes. This spicy and tangy flavored chutney is a perfect combination for Idli, dosa, appam or rice. My mother in low makes this chutney whenever she prepare idli or dosa.
The spice level of this chutney is on the upper side which make it more delicious and moth watering. Coconut oil is perfect for making this chutney but you can also use any oil of your choice. How to make Onion tomato chutney?
Ingredients
1 medium sized onion
2 medium sized tomatoes
2 cloves of garlic(optional)
1 small piece of tamarind
1 spn. of coconut oil.
1/2 spn. of chilli powder
Salt as required
Onion tomato chutney preparation steps
Step 01
Grind onion,tomatoes,garlic and tamarind to a smooth fine paste.Step 02
Heat coconut oil in a pan.Add chilli powder(flame should be low or you can switch off the flame.Otherwise the chilli powder may burn)Step 03
Add onion tomato paste.Add salt and mix well.Step 04
Cook the chutney for 4-5 minute in low flame.Step 05
When oil starts coming out of the chutney,switch off the flame.Your tasty and spicy tomato chutney is now ready to serve. Let me know your comments and suggestions also how it went for you.
Notes
1. You can also use any oil for making this chutney but nothing beats coconut oil.
2. Take care of the heat of oil when you add chilli powder.If you are making this chutney first time,better switch off the flame when it is hot and add chilli powder.Again switch on and add onion tomato paste(First time I did like this)
