Modak in Milk

Yummy combination of rice dumplings and coconut milk

Its a very simple and delicious dish.You can add sliced almond also while boiling the dumplings.


1 cup of Rice flour(unbolied rice)
3 cup of Coconut Milk
2 tbsp. of Cow Milk(optional)
1/2 cup of Sugar
1/4 spn. of Cardamom powder
1 pinch of Saffron
1 pinch of Salt


Step 01

Take a heavy bottom vessel.Add water and boil(for 1 cup of of rice flour I took 1 1/2 cup of water).

Step 02

Allow the water to boil. When the water starts boiling add the rice flour(you can use puttu podi or pathiri podi also) to this, stirring continuously without allowing any lumps to form.

Step 03

When the mixture has formed into smooth thick dough, remove from fire. The dough must be thick enough like chappathi dough.

Step 04

Smoothen the prepared rice flour batter with your hands.

Step 05

Make small balls (like size of a gooseberry).

Step 06

Take coconut milk first one -1 cup(onnal pal) and second one -2 cup(randam pal) and keep aside.

Step 07

Boil second milk in a vessel.

Step 08

Add rice dumplings,close lid of the pan and cook well for 5 min in medium flame.

Step 09

After 5 minutes,add 2 pinch of salt,sugar,cow milk and cardamom powder.Cook well for 2-3 min.

Step 10

Add remaining first milk.When it gets boiled, remove from flame.

Step 11

Garnish with saffron.
