Special Chicken fry from payyoli (Kerala)


Payyoli chicken is a spicy and tasty chicken fry with roasted coconut. In Kerala we used to make chicken fry in many ways. Here I would like to introduce you a special chicken fry from Payyoli, the north Malabar side of Kerala. Payyoli chicken we prepare with spices and one special ingredients that is grated coconut. Deep fried grated coconut is used to garnish the Payyoli chicken fry. Also boiled Kashmiri chilli paste is using to marinate the chicken pieces instead of chilly powder.

Even tough it will take little time to prepare this chicken fry, it is worth for the waiting. It is a delicious chicken fry which goes well with Ghee Rice , Tomato Pulao , Malabar Chicken Dum Biryani  etc.

How to make payyoli chicken

Ingredients

1/2 kg of Chicken
1 tbsp. of Ginger Paste
1 tbsp. of Garlic Paste
1 tbsp. of Lemon juice
10 no of Kashmiri chilli
1 cup of Garated Coconut
5 no of Green chilli
Oil to fry
Salt as required

Payyoli Chicken Preparation Method

Step 01


Marinate chicken pieces with salt,lemon juice and half of ginger paste and keep in refrigerator for 10 minutes.

Step 02


Boil kashmiri chilli for 5 minute and grind well to make a thick paste.

Step 03


Again marinate chicken with ginger garlic paste,3/4 part of kashmiri chilli paste and keep in refrigerator for 25 minutes

Step 04


Heat oil in a pan in high flame.When it gets hot, reduce the flame,add chicken pieces.Close the pan with a lid.Fry both side of the pieces till golden color.Take pieces from oil.

Step 05


Mix the remaining chilli paste in grated coconut and fry in the same oil.

Step 06


Fry green chilli and curry leaves in same oil.

Step 07


Garnish chicken pieces with grated coconut,green chilli and curry leaves
