Healthy sponge dosa with Finger millet

Appam or Set Dosa is south India’s traditional breakfast item. It is a very easy-to- make and a healthy recipe. The recipe of set dosa and ragi dosa is almost same. Only the difference is we are adding ragi. For making this ragi dosa, we need to soak ragi,rice and urd dal for 4-5 hours, grind and ferment for 5-6 hours.
We can also make uthappam,Dosa etc using this batter. There are lot many side dishes like Coconut Chutney, Mint Chutney,8 types of chutney recipes collections.

How to make Ragi Set Dosa?


  • 3 cups of Unboiled rice(pachari)
  • 1 cup of Finger millet/Ragi(Not Flour)
  • 1/2 cup of Urad Dal
  • 2 tbsp. of Rice
  • Salt for taste


Step 01

Soak ragi in water for 4-6 hours separately. Grind and keep aside.

Step 02

Rinse and soak rice and gram together in water for about 6 hours.

Step 03

Grind well. Mix ragi batter to this and ferment for 8 hours.

Step 04

Heat non stick pan.

Step 05

Add salt in to the batter and mix well.Pour one laddle of batter in to pan.Just spread batter by pressing with laddle on the center.do not over spread

Step 06

Cover the pan and cook in medium flame for 1-2 minute. Serve hot withchutneys.

Side dish For Ragi Dosa

Mint leaves chutney,
Tomato chutney,
Dosa podi(with urd dal)
Coconut chutney powder etc…
