Sakkari pongal with jaggery. Pongal is a traditional dish prepared for Tamil Harvest Festival called Pongal. There are lot many varieties in pongal like kara pongal, sakkarai pongal etc. Today, I would like to share the recipe of sweet pongal also called sakkarai pongal. This is a very easy to make sweet dish with rice and very less ingredients.

Here I prepared sweet pongal with brown rice and jaggery to make it more nutritious. You can use any rice varieties of your choice. I made this sweet pongal in a traditional way hence no milk is added to this recipe. If you want you can add coconut milk which gives a unique taste to the pongal. I have already posted Paal pongal/ Milk Pongal recipe with milk and rice.

How to Make chakkara Pongal


200g of Brown Rice(Navara Rice)
100g of Jaggery
1spn. of Cardamom powder
1 1/2 spn. of Ghee
1 cup of Water

Brown rice Pongal Preparation Method

Step 01

Pressure cook brown rice with 1 cup of water(3 whistle in medium flame).

Step 02

When rice get cooked add jaggery,cardamom powder and mash well. Boil for 2 more minute.

Step 03

Add ghee in a pan and roast cashew nuts and raisins. Pour this in to pongal along with ghee.

Step 04

Switch off the flame.serve hot or chilled.
