Squid Roast Kerala Style/ Koonthal Roast /Kanana Roast

Kerala Style Spicy Squid roast recipe

Squid roast or kanava roast is a quite popular seafood side dish all over Kerala. It is a spicy and flavorful dish which goes well with rice, pathiri, Kerala porotta etc. I love to cook variety of dishes with squid like squid curry, stuffed squid, squid fry etc…This delicious squid roast is my all time favorite. We used to have this roast when we go for vacation to Kerala. Because squid is not much available here in Bengaluru. My Mother in low is an expert in cooking squid recipes (Almost all non vegetarian ). Hope you all will like this squid roast recipe. Please try it out and let me know how it turned out for you.

Health Benefits of Squid

  • Squid is low in Saturated Fat and Sodium.
  • It is also a good source of Niacin and Zinc, and a very good source of Protein, Riboflavin, Vitamin B12, Phosphorus, Copper and Selenium.
But Squid is pretty high in cholesterol. So do not include squid in your daily meals.

Ingredients

1/2 kg of Squid 2 cup of Sliced onion 1 cup of Sliced tomato 4 no of Green chillies 4 Tablespoon of Ginger garlic paste 1/2 spoon of Turmeric powder 1 Spoon of chilli powder 1/2 spoon of Garam masala Oil as required 2 springs of Curry leaves Salt as required

Squid Roast Kerala Style – Preparation Method

Step 01

Clean and cut the squid into rings

Step 02

Cook squid with 1/2 glass of water ,turmeric powder and salt(10 minute in low flame).Keep aside

Step 03

Heat oil in pan.

Step 04

Add ginger garlic paste.Fry till raw smell goes off.

Step 05

Add sliced onion,curry leaves and green chillies.Fry till golden brown color.

Step 06

Add tomatoes and cook till tomaotes turns to soft and mushy.

Step 07

Add all the spices(chilli powder,turmeric powder and garam masala).Saute for 1 minute.

Step 08

Add cooked squid and mix well.Add some more curry leaves,cover the lid of pan and cook for 5 min in low flame.Stir often..

Step 09

Serve hot with rice,roti etc…Enjoy… 🙂
