Sweet Somas
Traditional south indian deewali sweet.
Sweet Somas are yummy and nutritional sweet prepared especially in festivals.We are using fried gram dal for filling which is very nutritious and tasty.Sweet somas can prepare in both sweet and salt versions.Dear friends try sweet somas for this diwali.. 🙂
How to Make Sweet Somas
Ingredients
1/2 kg of Maida/all purpose flour
2 tbsp. of Oil
Salt as required
For filling
1/4 kg of Pottu kadala / fried gram dal
250g of Sugar
1/4 kg of Grated coconut
5 no of Cardamom powder
Oil for fry
Method
Step 01
Mix flour, salt and oil well. Then sprinkle water to make stiff dough.Be careful while adding water. Keep aside for at least 2 hours.
Step 02
Mean while grind fried gram dal first into a rava like powder.
Step 03
Grind sugar into a fine powder with Cardamom.
Step 04
Grate coconut and dry roast well till the moisture evaporates. Fry in medium flame for until it becomes dry and wafts nice aroma.
Step 05
Mix this with fried dal powder and sugar.Keep aside.
Step 06
Now again knead the dough to smooth.
Step 07
Divide dough into 14 equal balls. Roll each into thin pooris.
Step 08
Add 1 TS of the pottukadalai powder into this.
Step 09
Fold this poori into half and grease the edge.
Step 10
Deep fry somas till golden color.Drain and store in airtight container
