Tomato Rice | How to make tomato rice | Spicy Kitchen


    Tomato rice recipe with basic ingredients. Famous rice dish of South India, especially Tamil Nadu. This is an easy to make flavored rice with little sticky consistency which goes well with curd. I tasted this tomato rice for the first time is from my college hostel. They used to serve the rice with raita and raw banana chips. It was a heavenly combination. Here I served the rice with chicken fry and salad.

    • 1/2 Kg. of Tomatoes
    • 1 Kg. of Basmati or Half boiled Rice
    • 1 spoon . of Chili Powder
    • 1 tbsp. of Garam Masala
    • 2-3 sticks of Cinnamon
    • Some Coriander Leaves
    • Some Mint Leaves
    • Salt as required
    • 3 tbsp. of Ghee


    Step 01

    Heat ghee in a heavy bottom vessel.

    Step 02

    Add cinnamon and cardamom ,saute well.

    Step 03

    Add tomatoes and stir well till it gets cooked.

    Step 04

    Add chilli powder, garam masala and salt.

    Step 05

    Add rice after 2 minute.

    Step 06

    Add 1 3/4 glass of water for 1 glass rice.

    Step 07

    Add some mint leaves and coriander leaves.close the lid and cook the rice

    Step 08

    Garnish with coriander leaves.
