Tangy Kerala tuna fish curry with roasted coconut and drumstick
Tuna curry with roasted coconut or Varutharacha choora curry is Kerala traditional side dish made with tuna and drumstick. Kerala is very famous for various varieties of fish curries. I made this tuna curry in malabar style . We can make fish curries in many varieties like fish curry in coconut milk,sardine curry with kudampuli,mackerel curry (ayala vattichathu),ayala pollichathu,sardine in coconut milk etc… Hope you all will like this recipes.
How to make Tuna curry | How to make choora curry
1/2 kg of Tuna(choora)
1/2 of one Coconut
10 pieces of Drumstick
5 no of Shallots
2 no of Tomato
4 no of Green chilli
1/4 spoon of Turmeric powder
1 spoon of Chilli powder
3/4 spoon of Coriander powder
1 pinch of Fenugreek powder.
5 cloves of Garlic
1 small piece of Ginger
1/2 spoon of Fennel seeds.
1 lemon sized Tamarind (soak in warm water for 5 minutes and take out the juice)
Salt as required
1 spoon of Oil
4 no of Shallots
1 spring of curry leaves
Heat 1 S oil in a pan
Add grated coconut,garlic,ginger,curry leaves,fennel seeds.Fry well in medium flame.
Add all spices(chilli powder,corainder powder,turmeric powder) when it turns golden brown.
Stir well for 1 minute in low flame.
Remove from flame,let it cool completely. Add 2-3 TS of water to the roasted ingredients and grind it to a fine thick paste.
Add the mix to a pot(clay pot(munchatti) is better).Add sliced onion,tomatoes,green chillies and curry leaves
Add 1/2 glass of water and salt. Mix well and let it boil. After 5 minutes add tamarind juice.
When the starts thicken, add fish pieces and drumstick. Mix carefully.
Cover the pot and cook(medium flame). continue cooking till the fish is done.
Heat 1/2 oil in a pan
Add chopped shallots,fenugreek seeds(3-4) and curry leaves.Saute for till golden brown color.
Add to fish curry and mix well. Soon cover the pot. Serve after 5 minute.
1. If you don’t have fenugreek powder,add 2-3 fenugreek seeds while roasting the coconut.
2. This curry requires less oil. Also drumsticks makes the curry more tasty and nutritious (You can also prepare this curry without drumstick also).
