Healthy and Delicious wheat kheer

Kheer/Payasam is a common tradiotional dessert of India. It is prepared especially in festivals,family gathering and birthday parties. I tasted this whole wheat kheer after my marriage. My MIL taught me to prepare this yummy kheer. It is very healthy and diabetic friendly. Prevents gallstones In various surveys by American Journal of Gastroenterology it has been proved that breads and cereals made from whole wheat help women avoid gallstones


  • 250g of Whole Wheat
  • 150g of jaggery
  • 2 cup of thick coconut milk
  • 1 cup of thin coconut milk
  • 1/2 spn. of Cardamom powder
  • 2 pinch of Dried ginger powder(chukku podi)
  • 2 tbsp. of Ghee
  • Nuts and raisins to garnish


Step 01

Clean wheat, wash two to three times with plenty of water and then soak for 3-4 hour.

Step 02

Pressure cook wheat for 20 minute in low flame.

Step 03

Heat 1 S ghee in a thick bottom vessel.

Step 04

Add cooked wheat and stir well.

Step 05

Add jaggery solution and cook for 5 minute. Stir continuously.

Step 06

Add thin coconut milk and stir well. Cook in low flame for 5 minute.

Step 07

Cook till it is thick but of pouring consistency.

Step 08

Add thick coconut milk,cardamom powder,dried ginger powder. Mix well and cook for 1 minute.

Step 09

Turn off the flame. Enjoy with pappadam(Papad) 🙂
