Worm infection is common for everyone, especially in kids. If the worms are not removed, they multiply by laying eggs in the intestine and cause severe health issues. Intestinal worms can be easily removed by regular de-worming treatment. There are many simple and easy natural home remedies to prevent intestinal worms.

Worm infection – natural home remedies

1.Coconut
Coconut is a very effective remedy for expelling all types of intestinal worms. It acts as a very strong anti-parasitic agent.Serve one tablespoon of crushed coconut with your breakfast. After 3 hours, drink one glass of warm milk with two tablespoons of castor oil mixed in it. Repeat the process daily until the infection disappears. Otherwise, you can eat 4-6 tablespoons of extra virgin coconut oil daily for removing the worms.
2.Unripe papaya
Unripe papaya has been used widely in Ayurvedic medicine for many ailments, including intestinal worms. Mix one tablespoon each of fresh raw papaya juice and honey with three or four tablespoons of hot water. Drink it in the morning on an empty stomach and after two hours follow it with a glass of warm milk with two tablespoons of castor oil mixed in it. Follow the treatment for 2-3 days. For children, we can reduce the dosage to half.
3.Garlic
Garlic is a natural remedy against parasitical worms. Eating three cloves of raw garlic on an empty stomach can help flush out intestinal worms. Also, you can drink milk, boiled with two crushed garlic pods every day.
4.Asafoetida
Mix a pinch of asafoetida powder in a glass of water and give this to kids early in the morning for a week. This will help to get rid of the intestinal worms.
5.Bitter gourd
Grind bitter gourd to extract juice and mix it with honey and warm water. Drink it twice a day. Also, use bitter gourd seeds powder with a little honey or jaggery.
6.Pumpkin seeds
‘cucurbitacin’ in pumpkin seeds has anti-parasitic properties that can paralyze the parasites. Mix together one tablespoon of roasted and crushed pumpkin seeds with an equal amount of honey. Give this mixture in the morning on an empty stomach for a week. Then include a laxative food like a banana or kiwi in breakfast.
7.Carom seeds
Carom seeds can be used to treat intestinal worms. Eat a small piece or about one tablespoon of jaggery in the morning on an empty stomach. Wait for 15-20 minutes. Then eat one-quarter to one-half teaspoon of crushed carom seeds along with a glass of water. Repeat this for two weeks.
8.Turmeric
Turmeric is an internal antiseptic and helps in eliminating all kinds of intestinal worms. Drink a glass of warm water mixed with one spoon of turmeric once every day, for five days. You can also add turmeric to buttermilk and take it for a week to destroy intestinal worms.
9.Indian Lilac or Neem
Neem has anti-parasitical properties and can destroy different intestinal worms. Mix powdered neem leaves in warm milk and honey and drink it twice a week. You can also roast neem leaves in clarified butter and eat it with rice or bread.
10.Cloves
Cloves are not only used for destroying existing intestinal worms and their eggs but for preventing any future infestations. Add a teaspoon of cloves to a cup of hot water and let it steep for 20 minutes. Drink this water three times a week to stay free of worms.
These remedies can help to minimize the infection, but may not cure it completely. They are not a replacement for prescription medications.

How the child get infected by worms

A child may get worm infestation from contaminated food or water and from other infected children in play areas or school. The eggs and larvae often hide under nails and can spreads easily to other kids while playing. Kids may also get worms through the infected soil.

  • Do not eat unwashed salads, semi-cooked vegetables or meat.
  • Drink boiled water every time.
  • Use swimming pools that do meet the hygiene requirements.
